Guo Chuan has been the first Asian sailor to circumnavigate the globe non-stop. He did this single handed on a class40. Boris and Guo Chuan had been working together in 2013 on a project for the 2014 Barcelona World Race, but – not satisfied with the performance potential of our boat – shifted their priorities to other challenges.
The Arctic Ocean World Record Challenge in September 2015 was the result of an enormous amount of hard work of Manager Lingling Liou (chinasportbusiness.com) and Guo Chuan. They managed to get the city of Quingdao to back this unique record and expedition project:
The attempt was to be the first race yacht to pass the NE passage – the northern sea route – and ratify this as a reference time with the WSSRC world record committee for sailing. This means the crew had to do the challenge non-stop and without engine which to date had never been done before.
In spite of low temperatures and the ice, Guo Chuan´s multinational team crossed the finish line off Cape Deznev on september 15th and set a record for the first race yacht to pass the NE Passage.
