Today 12th June at 12:00 pm is the start of the Rolex Giraglia 2019, the 241 nautical mile long offshore classic in the Mediterranean! Malizia is all set for racing and will be sailed by Pierre and Boris in Class IRC 0. This is their first double-handed offshore race of the season and another important regatta in Malizia’s racing calendar. For the 67th edition of the race, there are 18 other yachts registered in the double-handed category (Rolex Giraglia X2) besides Malizia and in total, more than 240 boats of almost all sizes will be competing.

The fleet will start off St. Tropez in southern France, sail around the waypoint of La Fourmigue and head east-southeast for the island of Giraglia, located at the northern tip of Corsica. The yachts will then round the Giraglia Rock – the visual symbol of the race – and head back to the French mainland on a north-westerly course finishing in Monaco. It will be very special to sail into Pierre’s hometown on board our IMOCA 60 Malizia Yacht Club de Monaco on the occasion of the Rolex Giraglia race this year.

For the first half of the race, the wind conditions look quite favourable: A southwesterly wind of 4-5 Bft gusting 6, probably 7 Bft will offer great reaching conditions on the way to the Giraglia Rock. On Thursday morning however, the wind is expected to decrease significantly. So, it will be once more a very interesting and exciting Giraglia race! According to the current weather data, the estimated time of arrival should be between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
