Boot Düsseldorf Press Release (Deutsch und Englisch)

Wenn die boot zur Verleihung des „ocean tribute“ Award ruft, sind auch die prominenten Meeresschützer an Bord. Stammgast ist natürlich die britische Meeresaktivistin Emily Penn, auch Pierre-Yves Cousteau, Sohn des Tauchpioniers Jacques-Yves und ebenfalls Taucher und ein Anwalt des Meeres, zeigt Flagge, die britische Segel-Legende Sir Robin Knox-Johnston ist dabei und natürlich als Ehrengast Fürst Albert II. Mit seiner Stiftung Partner der boot und der Deutschen Meeresstiftung bei der Verleihung des „ocean tribute“ Award. Der monegassische Fürst krönte am Montagabend die blue motion night der boot.

Zu Beginn der Veranstaltung unterzeichneten der Vizepräsident der Fürst Albert II. Stiftung, S.E. Bernard Fautrier, Messechef Werner M. Dornscheidt, der Vorstand der Deutschen Meeresstiftung, Frank Schweikert, und der Vertreter der Fürst Albert II. Stiftung in Deutschland, Dr. Bernd Kunth, den neuen Kooperationsvertrag zur Fortführung des „ocean tribute“ Award in den kommenden drei Jahren.

Anschließend wurden die Preise an die Gewinner des Awards für Projekte, die sich den Schutz der Meere auf die Fahnen geschrieben haben, verliehen. Ausgezeichnet wurde jeweils ein Unternehmen in den Kategorien Gesellschaft, Industrie und Wissenschaft für ihre bahnbrechenden Ideen und deren Umsetzung.

S.E. Fautrier zeichnete den Gewinner in der Kategorie Gesellschaft aus. Beeindruckt hat die Jury die drei Ocean Award Nominierten in der Kategorie Gesellschaft: Sie waren begeistert vom Engagement der Melanesian Coral Sea Foundation, der Malizia Ocean Challenge und der Sky Ocean Rescue. Gewonnen in dieser Kategorie hat die Malizia Ocean Challenge. Gegründet von Pierre Casiraghi und Boris Herrmann, ist sie integraler Bestandteil der Malizia Sailing Campaign. Beide sind große Botschafter ihres Sports, aber ihr Engagement geht noch weiter. Die gemeinsame Kampagne unter der Flagge des Yacht Club de Monaco widmet sich der Herausforderung und veranlasst das bestmögliche für die Natur. Das Team sammelt Daten über den Zustand der Ozeane und wertet sie in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie in Hamburg und dem IFM Geomar in Kiel aus. Im Mittelpunkt stehen Daten, die Antworten auf Fragen zur Absorption von CO2 durch den Ozean geben. Um auch in Zukunft die Meere zu erhalten, nimmt die Malizia Ocean Challenge junge Menschen aus aller Welt mit an Bord. Die Leiterin dieser Initiative Birte Lorenzen, erklärt der Generation der Acht- bis Dreizehnjährigen Themen des Meeres- und Klimaschutzes. Als erfahrene Lehrerin teilt und tauscht Birte ihr Wissen mit Kollegen und Partnern aus. Am besten lässt sich die Malizia Ocean Challenge mit dem Satz „Segeln umfasst Gesellschaft und Wissenschaft zugunsten der Umwelt“ erklären. „Das soziale /3

Engagement von Birte, Boris und Pierre ist vorbildlich!” beschrieb Fautrier das besondere Engagement der passionierten Segler.

Boot Messepräsident Robert Marx stellte die Preisträger in der Kategorie Industrie vor: „Wie Sie sich vorstellen können, hatten wir fantastische Bewerber in der Kategorie Industrie des Ocean Awards. Unsere Nominierten sind die Umwelterfinder von Neptu Therm, der Abwasserzauberer von enteron und die Next Wave – Lonely Whale Kampagne. Gewonnen hat Neptu Therm.“

Sein Erfinder, Richard Meier, dachte die so genannten Neptunbälle/bzw. Seegrasbälle nach, die er beim Kitesurfen in Spanien in großen Mengen an den Mittelmeerstränden vorfand. Während alle anderen diese seltsamen Algenabfallprodukte eher ärgerlich fanden, lösten sie im klugen Kopf des Karlsruher Architekten und Erfinders einen bahnbrechenden Denkprozess aus. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wurde die Idee von Neptu Therm geboren. Heute setzen Meiers Frau Monika und Sohn Michael seine Arbeit erfolgreich fort. Die Grundidee ist so einfach wie genial: Neptu Therm verwandelt die natürlichen Neptunbälle aus abgestorbenen Algenblättern in ein wertvolles Dämm-Material, das sehr begehrt, völlig natürlich und energieeffizient ist. Das rein biologische und schwerbrennbare Produkt wird zunehmend im Hochbau eingesetzt. Der mit dem „Blauen Engel“ zertifizierte Dämmstoff steht den traditionellen Industrieprodukten in nichts nach. Er ist vollständig abbaubar und kann wiederverwendet werden, z.B. in Gemüsepflastern als Pflanzensubstrat. Marx: „NeptuTherm ist einfach ein wunderbares Geschenk vom Meer an die Menschheit. Kein Wunder, dass dieses Unternehmen bereits mehrere Preise unter anderem den Industry Award, den GreenTec Award und den Innoventa Innovationspreis gewonnen hat.“ Anschließend überreichte er Monika und Michael Meier gemeinsam mit Messechef Werner M. Dornscheidt den Preis in der Kategorie Industrie.

Beeindruckend zeigten die drei Nominierten in der Kategorie Wissenschaft des Ocean Award, dass sie großartige Ideen haben, die Öffentlichkeit zum Schutz der Meere einzubeziehen. Mit großer Kreativität und Zielstrebigkeit entwickelten die drei besten Kandidaten Alnitak, The Ocean Race und gardening coral reefs ihre Projekte. „Ihre Arbeit ist wegweisend“ erklärte der Vorstand der Deutschen Meeresstiftung, Frank Schweikert, die Entscheidung der Jury. Der Gewinner ist „The Ocean Race“. Das Team, das früher als Volvo Ocean Race bekannt war, hat neue Maßstäbe gesetzt, was das weltweite Bewusstsein für das dramatische Ausmaß der Verschmutzung der Ozeane mit Plastikmüll betrifft und realistische Maßnahmen dagegen ergriffen. Während der 13. Ausgabe des einzigartigen Segelabenteuers haben sieben Teams Daten über Mikrokunststoffe, Wassertemperaturen, CO2-Gehalte und mehr in den entlegensten Regionen

gesammelt. Die Daten wurden von internationalen Wissenschaftlern ausgewertet und weiterverarbeitet. In einer eindrucksvollen Kampagne arbeitet The Ocean Race mit der UN-Initiative #CleanSeas zusammen. Andere aktive Kampagnenmitglieder sind: 11th Hour Racing, die Mirpuri Foundation, Volvo, AkzoNobel, Stena Recycling, Bluewater und die Ocean Family Foundation. Die nachhaltige Initiative erreichte mehr als 100.000 Schulkinder und mehr als 10 Millionen Menschen auf der ganzen Welt. Über 400.000 Besucher haben von den Informationsangeboten an den Hotspots in den Zwischenhäfen profitiert. Er überreichte den Vertretern des Ocean Race, Dougal Christie und Anne-Cécile Turner, den Award mit den Worten: „Das ist eine perfekte Symbiose zwischen Wassersport und Wissenschaft.“

Nach den Preisverleihungen gab es während der boot „blue motion night“ 2019 in der Halle 6 noch lange, angeregte Gespräche der Gäste über die interessanten und engagierten Projekte, die in diesem Jahr mit dem „ocean tribute“ Award ausgezeichnet wurden. Sponsoren der Nacht sind Messegastronom Stockheim, Veuve Cliquot Champagner sowie Hublot Uhren. Sponsor des „ocean tribute“ Award ist die Firma Seabob, Tauchscooter.

Die boot Düsseldorf ist als weltweit größte Boots- und Wassersportmesse alljährlich im Januar der „In-Treffpunkt“ der gesamten Branche. Die rund 2.000 Aussteller zeigen vom 19. bis 27. Januar 2019 ihre interessanten Neuheiten, attraktiven Weiterentwicklungen und maritimen Ausrüstungen. Prince Albert II. Foundation, German Marine Foundation and boot Düsseldorf in a boat at the ocean tribute Award

When the boat calls for the presentation of the “ocean tribute” award, the prominent marine conservationists are also on board. At the beginning of the event the vice-president of Prince Albert II foundation, S.E. Bernard Fautrier, Messe Düsseldorf CEO, Werner M. Dornscheidt, the Executive Board of the German Marine Foundation, Frank Schweikert, and the representative of Prince Albert II foundation in Germany, Dr. Bernd Kunth, signed the new cooperation agreement for the continuation of the “ocean tribute” Award over the next three years.

Afterwards, the prizes were given to the winners of the award for projects that are committed to protecting the oceans. One company was awarded in each of the categories Society, Industry and Science for its groundbreaking ideas and their implementation.

S.E. Fautrier awarded the winner in the category Society. The jury was impressed by the three Ocean Award nominees in the category Society: They were enthusiastic about the commitment of the Melanesian Coral Sea Foundation, the Malizia Ocean Challenge and the Sky Ocean Rescue. The Malizia Ocean Challenge won in this category. Founded by Pierre Casiraghi and Boris Herrmann, it is an integral part of the Malizia Sailing Campaign. Both are great ambassadors of their sport, but their commitment goes even further. The joint campaign, under the flag of the Yacht Club de Monaco, is dedicated to the challenge and to doing the best possible for nature. The team collects data on the state of the oceans and evaluates them in close cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg and the IFM Geomar in Kiel. The focus is on data that provide answers to questions about the absorption of CO2 by the ocean. In order to preserve the oceans in the future, the Malizia Ocean Challenge takes young people from all over the world on board. The leader of this initiative, Birte Lorenzen, explains the topics of marine and climate protection to the generation of eight- to thirteen-year-olds. As an experienced teacher, Birte shares and exchanges her knowledge with colleagues and partners. The Malizia Ocean Challenge can best be explained with the sentence “Sailing encompasses society and science for the benefit of the /3

environment”. “The social commitment of Birte, Boris and Pierre is exemplary”, Fautrier described the special commitment of the passionate sailors.

Boot exhibition president Robert Marx introduced the winners in the Industry category: “As you can imagine, we had fantastic applicants in the Industry category of the Ocean Award. Our nominees are Neptu Therm’s environmental inventors, enteron’s wastewater magician and the Next Wave – Lonely Whale campaign. The winner was Neptu Therm.”

His inventor, Richard Meier, thought about the so-called Neptune balls/seagrass balls that he found in large quantities on the Mediterranean beaches while kitesurfing in Spain. While everyone else found these strange algae waste products rather annoying, they triggered a groundbreaking thinking process in the clever mind of the Karlsruhe architect and inventor. It was at this time that the idea of Neptu Therm was born. Today, Meier’s wife Monika and son Michael continue his work successfully. The basic idea is as simple as it is ingenious: Neptu Therm transforms the natural Neptune balls from dead algae leaves into a valuable insulation material that is highly sought-after, completely natural and energy-efficient. The purely biological and hardly combustible product is increasingly used in building construction. The insulation material certified with the “Blue Angel” is in no way inferior to traditional industrial products. It is completely degradable and can be reused, e.g. in vegetable plasters as a plant substrate. Marx: “NeptuTherm is simply a wonderful gift from the sea to mankind. No wonder that this company has already won several awards including the Industry Award, the GreenTec Award and the Innoventa Innovation Award”. He then presented Monika and Michael Meier with the prize in the Industry category together with Werner M. Dornscheidt, head of the trade fair.

The three nominees in the Science category of the Ocean Award were impressive in demonstrating that they have great ideas for involving the public in protecting the oceans. With great creativity and determination, the three best candidates Alnitak, The Ocean Race and gardening coral reefs developed their projects. “Their work is groundbreaking,” said Frank Schweikert, Chairman of the German Marine Foundation, explaining the jury’s decision. The winner is “The Ocean Race”. The team, formerly known as Volvo Ocean Race, has set new standards in global awareness of the dramatic levels of pollution of the oceans with plastic waste and has taken realistic action against it. During the 13th edition of this unique sailing adventure, seven teams collected data on micro-plastics, water temperatures, CO2 levels and more in the most remote regions. The data was evaluated and further processed by international scientists. In an impressive campaign, The Ocean Race is working with the UN #CleanSeas initiative. Other active campaign members are:

11th Hour Racing, the Mirpuri Foundation, Volvo, AkzoNobel, Stena Recycling, Bluewater and the Ocean Family Foundation. The sustainable initiative reached more than 100,000 schoolchildren and more than 10 million people around the world. More than 400,000 visitors have benefited from the information offered at the hotspots in the intermediate ports. He presented the award to Ocean Race representatives Dougal Christie and Anne-Cécile Turner with the words: “This is a perfect symbiosis between water sports and science”.
