Boris Herrmann’s offshore sailing team and the German fashion brand set course for more sustainable clothing by entering a long-term partnership. Together, they want to launch capsule collections focusing on resource conservation and climate protection.

Hamburg, 8 September 2022 OLYMP and Team Malizia led by Boris Herrmann, are announcing their long-term collaboration and intention to launch several capsule collections that represent a consistent further development of the German fashion brand’s existing GREEN CHOICE concept. The planned products will offer the possibility to pursue new design approaches, to use innovative yarns and fibres and to make use of new digital processes in their development and creation.

Mark Bezner, owner and CEO of OLYMP Bezner KG, explains: “When it comes to sustainability, we’ve already steered a very consistent course in recent years and have already made a great deal of progress. By 2025 at the latest, all our OLYMP products will bear our GREEN CHOICE label and thus be made of sustainable raw materials and manufactured as environmentally friendly as possible. In order to gain further momentum in the race against climate change, we will be acting even more decisively in the future and will continue to push the boundaries in terms of responsible product range design. From now on, we will have the backing of Boris Herrmann, who stands for environmental and climate protection like no other. This makes him an internationally respected and, moreover, extremely likeable sustainability ambassador”.

Through their sailing adventures and their “A Race We Must Win” mission, Boris Herrmann and his Team Malizia draw a lot of attention to the most pressing problems of our time. Aboard their race yacht Malizia – Seaexplorer, they measure valuable oceanographic data from the most remote parts of the world and help scientists to better understand and monitor the health of the Ocean and its role in the climate system.

Team Malizia skipper Boris Herrmann adds: “We are very happy to partner with a German, family-owned company known for wanting to push the development of sustainable clothing even further. As we all know, a positive change in the fashion and textile industry towards more sustainable processes and products will have a great impact on our planet’s health. Working closely with OLYMP and developing more sustainable clothing with a focus on resource conservation and climate protection is an important element of our A Race We Must Win mission.”

The collaboration will initially run for three years, therefore seeing the sailing team and the fashion brand partner during a period with major races such as The Ocean Race 2022-23 and the Vendée Globe 2024-25. In addition to the joint development of clothing products, the collaboration will also aim to provide regular support for the sustainability projects. These include Team Malizia’s My Ocean Challenge education programme to sensitise children to ocean protection and solutions to the climate crisis, their Malizia Mangrove Park in the Philippines, and the “Eco Learning Camp” in Indonesia supported by the charitable foundation OLYMP-BEZNER-STIFTUNG.

Will be flying the flag together on the subject of sustainability and fashion:
