The Vendée Globe is a solo (single handed) non-stop around the world yacht race with no assistance.

It was founded in 1989 by Philippe Jeantot and only happens every 4 years. The race starts and finishes in Les Sables-d’Olonne in France and it is considered the pinnacle of yacht races.

During the race the sailors will travel down the Atlantic Ocean to the Cape of Good Hope, then travel around Antarctica with Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn on their port side and then back to France. The current record is 74 days 3 hours 35 minutes and 46 seconds.

Technological advancements are making this race even more exciting with the ability to livestream the action happening on the boat and to connect with the sailors.

Understandably the race receives a lot of media cover, with 345 million Vendee Globe website and app views, 71 million Vendee Globe videos viewed, 2.25 million visitors to the start and end of the race and a gross media valuation of €198 million.
